Smoking
Glades General Hospital has been a smoke free facility since October 1st, 1990. Please ask a staff member for the location of designated smoking areas.
Anesthesia
Anesthesia services are directed by a board-certified anesthesiologist. When an anesthesiologist administers your anesthetic for surgery, you will receive a bill for the use of hospital equipment and anesthetic agents. In addition, the anesthesiologist will bill you separately for his/her professional services.
Cardiac Catheterization
Diagnostic outpatient cardiac catheterization is available by physician referral and may be scheduled through our Outpatient Services Department.
Cardiac Rehab
Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program offering exercise, education and support that helps patients with heart disease recover faster and return to an active and healthy lifestyle. Cardiac rehab services are ordered by physician referral. For information please call extension 492.
Emergency Services
The Emergency Department is professionally staffed 24 hours a day with a physician and registered nurse to provide prompt, quality medical care to accident victims or patients with sudden or serious illness. Through the use of state-of-the-art equipment, the Emergency Department has the capability to monitor and treat a variety of patients. The Emergency Department physician will bill you separately for his/her professional services.
Financial Assistance
Help in applying for financial assistance is available through our Out Reach Program, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. by calling extension 264.
Laboratory
The well-equipped and professionally staffed clinical laboratory is under the direction of pathologists who are board-certified in Clinical, Anatomical and Dermato-Pathology. The Laboratory tests blood, tissues and other body fluids when requested by the physician. If your physician orders blood tests for you during your hospital stay, you will be visited by a phlebotomist, a professional specially trained in drawing blood. When your physician requests laboratory tests for you, you will receive a bill for use of hospital equipment and necessary supplies. In addition, the pathologist will bill you separately for professional services.
Medical Records (also known as Health Information Management)
A complete record of your care and treatment, as with every other patient, is maintained in the Medical Records Department. Because the medical record of each patient is an essential part of quality care and is strictly confidential, information contained in the record is released to no one without the written consent of the patient, except when required by law. To request a copy of your medical record, please contact the Medical Records Department at extension 429.
Nurse Call System
Each room is equipped with a nurse call and television button within your easy reach. There is also a wall intercom. To call a nurse, press the button marked “Nurse”. A nurse will either come to your room or answer your call through the wall intercom
Nursing Services
The nursing personnel of the hospital strive to provide you with safe, quality and compassionate care. An Administrative Nursing Supervisor is on duty 24 hours a day and is available to answer any questions you may have. Your nursing care is planned by our staff of professional registered nurses under the orders and guidance of your physician.
Patient Advocacy
Our goal at Glades General Hospital is to ensure that you have very good care and a pleasant stay. Our Patient Advocate is available to offer a helping hand if you should need one. This patient representative can be reached by calling extension 444, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. After 4 p.m. or on weekends, please ask for the Nursing Supervisor.
Pharmacy
The hospital maintains a well-stocked pharmacy, supervised by a registered pharmacist, to fill prescriptions ordered by your physician. Medications ordinarily taken at home should not be brought to the hospital. This assures that the physician knows every medication the patient receives. The Pharmacist is available on a daily basis should you need a consultation.
Sleep Lab
Glades General Hospital offers Polysomnography using state-of-the-art, digital equipment in a private, comfortable setting. Our registered polysomnographists attend and monitor our patients throughout the tests. The results are returned to the prescribing physician after being scored and reviewed by our professional staff. Sleep tests are covered by most insurances. Surgery
Glades General Hospital's three surgical suites are equipped to accommodate complex orthopedic procedures, vascular, thoracic, urological, gynecological and general surgery. Our surgeons utilize some of the most modern equipment available including laser and endoscopic surgery equipment. After surgery, patients are usually taken to a recovery room for monitoring and careful observation until it is determined that they are ready to return to their rooms. No visitors are allowed in the recovery room.
Radiology
In addition to the traditional x-ray equipment found in a radiology department, Glades General Hospital features a full-body spiral CT scan, ultrasound and nuclear medicine. Should you require an x-ray or other similar form of examination, your physician will order the appropriate tests. You will receive a bill for use of the hospital equipment and necessary supplies. In addition you will receive a bill from the radiologist for professional services.
Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Therapy Department provides treatment and diagnostic evaluation of breathing and heart abnormalities. Respiratory therapists, at the request of your doctor, administer oxygen treatments in cases of respiratory difficulty, post-operatively and in emergency situations.
Physical Therapy Services
Services and treatments provided by the Physical Therapy Department are ordered by your physician and are designed to shorten your hospital stay as well as hasten your recovery. Should you require any of these procedures, you will be taken to the Physical Therapy Department and evaluated by a qualified physical therapist. Following evaluation, a treatment program will be established and implemented for your specific problem. Physical therapy services are also available on an outpatient basis. Please contact them at extension 436.
Social Services
Social Services are available to patients and families through our Case Management Department. Social Services may include but not be limited to psycho-social assessment, counseling (inpatient and out-patient), crisis intervention, discharge planning, financial assistance, and information and referral. If you anticipate special needs or have concerns about meeting your post-hospital needs, please ask the nurse to contact the Case Manager.
Critical Care Unit
The Critical Care Unit (CCU) concentrates, in one location, those patients who are critically ill and require continuous monitored and intensive nursing care. Each patient's bedside is equipped with the most advanced electronic monitoring devices. In addition, sophisticated emergency resuscitation equipment is maintained in close proximity to each patient room. Visiting hours are restricted due to the intense nature of the environment and the patient's need for rest. Personal belongings and flowers are not permitted in this unit.
Advance Directives
We support your right and need to choose someone who will make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so for yourself. A pamphlet about Advance Directives was given to you upon admission. Your admission and care will not be affected if you have not completed an Advance Directive. For help with the forms, please contact the Patient Relations Department or Social Services.
If you have a Living Will or other Advance Directive, please provide your nurse with a copy as soon as possible and we will place the copy in your medical record.
Patient Satisfaction Survey
Our goal at Glades General Hospital is to provide you with very good care. A few days after you are discharged, you will receive a Patient Satisfaction Survey in the mail. This survey is what we use to improve our service and reward and recognize our staff. We would appreciate it if you would complete the survey and mail it in the enclosed, addressed, postage paid envelope.
Ethics /Grievance Committee
The focus of the hospital's Ethics/Grievance Committee is to gather information pertaining to medical and ethical issues referred for review. The committee is responsible for, but not limited to, the following functions:

Serving in an advisory capacity and/or as a resource to persons involved in medical ethical decision-making |

Providing forums for discussion between hospital and medical professionals and others about medical ethical issues. |

Any patient, significant other, surrogate, proxy, legally appointed guardian, physician, nurse, or other health care provider who is directly involved in a patient's care may request a consultation from the Ethics Committee. |

You may access the Ethics Committee by contacting the Chief Nursing Officer or the Chief Executive Officer through the hospital operator. |
· |
Problem prevention and early resolution are encouraged by talking with your nurse or the Patient Advocate. If you are dissatisfied with the resolution, you may lodge a complaint with any hospital employee or physician. |

Any hospital employee receiving a complaint is required to immediately forward the information to their supervisor and patient advocate for follow-through. We are here to serve you and meet your needs. |
