Bedside Rails

Bedside rails are for your protection.  They may be placed in the up or down position as you find most comfortable during your hospital stay.

Moving About

Unless you have been told it is all right to do so, do not get in or out of bed yourself.  Ask the nurse to help you.

Wheelchairs

Please do not get in and out of a wheelchair unless you are attended by a member of the hospital staff.  Wheelchairs are not to be taken off hospital property.

Universal Precautions

You may notice an employee wearing gloves, goggles or a mask.   These are used for protection of staff and patients.  Specific isolation precautions will be explained if indicated for your illness.

Food Gifts

Ask your nurse before eating food gifts.  They could interfere with your prescribed diet.

Electrical Appliances

Patients are not permitted to bring in electrical appliances.  You may, however, use appliances powered by battery.

Weapons

Weapons of any type are strictly prohibited.

Fire Alarms

Do not be alarmed if you hear the sound of a fire alarm.  Periodic fire drills are held as a safety precaution.  They involve the hospital staff, not patients, and are conducted to ensure our readiness to deal with such a situation should it ever arise.  If there is ever a fire, you will be informed and directed on what to do.

Personal Property

Glades General Hospital cannot assume responsibility for your personal property.  Therefore, it is recommended that you leave all of your valuables at home or send them home with a relative or trusted friend.  When your dentures, eye glasses, contact lenses, or hearing aids are not in use, be sure to store them in a protective container.  Do not place these items on your food tray.

Other Tips

Do not lean out of bed to reach for items on the bedside table.  Also, do not use a bedside cabinet or bed table for support; they may move under your weight.
