Mary Weeks

Mary Weeks, Chief Nursing Officer at Glades General Hospital, gave an update on the new regional hospital at the Glades Community Forum in Belle Glade on February 29. Though held on a Friday night, the meeting, sponsored by County Commissioner Jess Santamaria, drew about a hundred residents and community leaders to hear presentations on various projects in the Glades. Liz Cayson, Community Relations Specialist for the District, also attended and distributed a flyer with key facts about the hospital project.

Mary Weeks is well-known and respected in the Glades communities. She has served Glades General Hospital in a variety of roles for the last 30 years. A strong advocate for her profession, Weeks has been instrumental in recruiting others into nursing. In addition to teaching in the nursing curriculum at Palm Beach Community College, she was instrumental in forging a partnership between the College and Glades General that places nursing students in the hospital to gain clinical experience.

In 2000 she was honored as the first recipient of the Palm Beach Community College Women of Accomplishment Award in the field of medicine. Mary is also a past president of the Belle Glade Chapter of PEO International, a women's Christian philanthropic organization, and is also a leader in her church where she teaches Sunday school.
